Sustainable Rum: Feel Good About What You Drink
We love rum. We love our planet and community more. By building an international rum company, our aim is to enable our staff to thrive, empower women and people of color to take on new roles, contribute to our community, and lead our industry in environmental sustainability and social responsibility. As the world’s first certified B Corp rum distillery, we have committed to balancing profit with purpose and undergoing a rigorous assessment every three years so you know every claim we make is true and verified. Our efforts have earned us recognition as a Best for the World company—we’re honored, of course, but most of all inspired to keep up the work!
Environmental Sustainability
Recreation and the outdoors power our Colorado community. All we need to do is step out the front door and take in the view to remember our responsibility to care for this place and this planet.
That’s why we have a biodigester on site to process our bio-waste, have become certified Plastic Neutral and always look for new ways to manage our environmental footprint.
Making a Difference
Gender Diversity
Over the years, our founder and owner, Karen Hoskin, has (often) been the only woman in the room, been mistaken for being “somebody’s wife” at trade shows, and asked if she was delivering lunch when she was setting up for a presentation. She’s made it her mission to empower women in the rum industry, and we’re glad to see the ways gender diversity has improved.
JEDI Work and Diversity
Our small town in Colorado made big headlines for painting a Black Lives Matter mural on main street. It was a moment to celebrate for Montanya Staff, many of whom have been involved in a local movement to make our community a more diverse and welcoming place. As a staff, we’ve also been working together to make Montanya a more equitable and inclusive workplace. There’s a lot to learn, but we know that we’re better at what we do (and have more fun!) when we embrace diversity of all kinds.
