#1 Restaurant in Crested Butte
Our free rum tastings, free distillery tours, artisan cocktails, seasonally-inspired appetizers and small plates, and live music have earned us major kudos from our fans—Montanya Distillers was voted the #1 Restaurant in Crested Butte in 2019 on TripAdivsor.
11am until last call at 9pm daily.
Come on by and VIsit
Our 212 Elk Avenue location is home to the Distillery and the Tasting Room, which encompasses our bar and restaurant. We have seating on two floors and outside (during summer, of course!). Stop by for free rum tastings, free distillery tours, artisan cocktails, seasonally-inspired small plates and appetizers, and live music.
+ What are your hours?
During summer and winter, our Tasting Room bar and restaurant is open daily from 11am to 9pm (last call).
During “off season,” we’re open from 3pm to 9pm (last call). Approximately October 15 - December 15 and April 15 - June 15.
During the fall of 2019, we will be closed from October 13 - October 21st for seasonal sprucing up!
+ What seating is available and are you handicap accessible?
Yes, we are handicap accessible on our main floor and front patio. We seat customers on two floors in the Tasting Room and Distillery. During winter, it’s wonderfully warm and cozy from the cranking stills. During summer, we have two outdoor patios.
+ Are children allowed?
We are definitely kid-friendly and have a play area on the second floor. We just ask that you keep an eye on your kids while they play and help us keep the play area neat.
+ What do you serve?
We serve artisan rum cocktails, many of which our founder Karen has perfected over 10+ years. Our bartenders and servers are also always experimenting with new recipes.
And our chef Rose Reyes works with Karen to develop a seasonally-inspired menu of small plates and appetizers. Think international street food, fresh ingredients and menu items you won’t find anywhere else in Crested Butte. (You'll find our cocktail and food menu here.)
+ Do you accept reservations?
We do not accept reservations but make a concerted effort to seat our guests as quickly as possible.
+ What if I don’t like rum? Do you sell other liquor, beer or wine?
Because we are a distillery and tasting room, we only serve our rums and rum cocktails (plus our increasingly popular food menu). Even if you think you don’t like rum, try ours anyway. Our rums are a lot less sweet than the rums you probably tried in college, and we’re able to create a wide range of cocktails: from classics like a Manhattan or a Daiquiri to our own creations, like the ever-popular Maharaja or Caldera. Many first-time customers are surprised to learn how much they love our rum and cocktails!
+ Do you offer distillery tours?
Yes! We distill on the second floor of the Tasting Room/bar and restaurant. You’re welcome to check out the operation any time, and we can usually provide a basic tour without a reservation any day before 5pm (unless we’re jammin’ busy). Our distiller is typically on site Wednesday through Friday and sometimes on Saturday—those are the best days to tour. (It’s always free.)
For group tours of 8 or more people please give us a call or drop us an email to reserve a time.
+ Do you offer tastings?
Yes, and they’re also free! Just stop in at the Tasting Room and Distillery, and any of our front-of-house staff can give you a tasting. Our staff are bartenders and servers, meaning they do it all and can give you an informed (and fun!) insight into what makes Montanya Rums unique.
+ What kind of live music do you host?
We often have live acoustic music of all genres, including gypsy jazz, bluegrass, Americana, country, and other original styles. Our musicians play their own original music, not all those covers you’ve heard a million times. You can find our current schedule on the event calendar.
+ Can I reserve Montanya Distillers for an event?
We receive many requests and inquiries about renting our venue, and we wish we could say YES to every single one! Over the years, however, we’ve learned to only say yes when we can really meet your needs. Montanya Distillers is available for after-parties, Sunday morning brunch, fundraisers, and cocktail catering (season dependent). Unfortunately, we generally can’t accommodate weddings or rehearsal dinners given the size of our space and the nature of our business. Learn more here.
+ Can I book a gig at Montanya Distillers?
Among the many surprises that have come with running a rum distillery and tasting room is the fact that we’ve become a well-loved and well-known music venue in Crested Butte. We host only acoustic musicians who play their own music. If that’s you, read this page just for you.

Good Water, Good Rum
Water makes up 60% of every bottle of rum. Ours comes from a pristine, snowmelt-fed aquifer, and that improves our rums.
Our employees are just as ambitious as our owners. Anna-Marie Davidson founded the Good Life Girls to empower girls.
